Hand-Carved Cardinal

Carved from a block and painted by hand, sat on a live-edge perch. The slowest thing I make, and the one I'm proudest of.

What it is

This one starts as a block and ends as a bird, and everything in between is a knife and a lot of evenings. Then it gets painted by hand, feather section by feather section.

The perch is left live-edge on purpose — bark on one side, so the bird has something that looks like it grew there rather than a dowel.

It's the most expensive thing on this page and the one I'd show you first if you were standing in the shop.

If the size isn't listed, the finish isn't one I stock, or you want something that isn't on this page at all — send me the details. There's a sketch pad on that page too, so you can draw it if it's easier than describing it.
